I have taught band for 20+ years in the Arkansas Public School system, and play a variety of instruments. In my career, I've taught thousands of students. I hold a BA in Music Education and an MA degree in Instructional Technology from Arkansas Tech University. I'm a National Board Certified Teacher since 2008, and became a National Geographic Certified Teacher in 2017. I've been twice nominated for the Music Educator’s Grammy. I'm a member of Percussive Arts Society, Phi Bet Mu, Arkansas School Band Directors Association, and the National Association for Music Education. My band was chosen by the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association as the All-State Honor Band for the 2016-2017 school year. They were the first and to date only Middle School band ever chosen.
I have studied and performed throughout the United States and Europe, in Cuba, and in Ghana, West Africa. I perform and lecture on my experiences with Arkansas Ambassadors of Music and This World Music. I have written and published 3 books on music education.
It is my goal to use all of my experience to provide a customized educational experience to all of my students. No matter your age, skill level, or background knowledge, I want to help students set achievable goals and to work to meet those goals.
