About
"Tom has helped me take my playing and theory knowledge to another level, with a mixture of skill and patience. He's a great teacher."-Pete G.
I've learned to approach lyric writing with a more critical eye. Tom has shown me the value in digging deeper to get the most meaning and impact from my songs.”—George A.
Hello and Welcome!
I'm a composer and performer based in New Haven, CT. I grew up listening to and playing classic rock and pop and later developed a love for classical music. Both of those musical worlds inform my music and I still have a love for "art music" and various popular music styles.
I started performing as a session musician at the age of 18, and have since played on hundreds of recordings for VH1, MTV and Sony records among others. I've also played over 3,000 live gigs throughout the New England tri-state area.
I'm a graduate of The Hartt School, where I studied music composition with supplemental studies in film scoring. Awards and honors include: Meet The Composer’s Met Life Creative Connections grant; 1st. prize-The 3 C's Composition Competition; the Quey Percussion Duo International Composition Competition, 2nd. Prize; the Ed Diemente Award; Hartt Talent Award and the A&D; Burton Scholarship and the ASCAP Plus award.
My instrumental music has been performed internationally and as a songwriter I've collaborated with many musicians, in addition to creating my own catalog of songs. My influences in songwriting are varied, but the one commonality is a love and dedication to the craft.
Whether teaching guitar, music composition or songwriting, I cultivate an environment where students learn without judgment or pressure. It's gratifying to see people achieve their dreams by learning and playing music and I'm happy to help anyone on that journey.
My approach to teaching guitar is focused on core techniques, theory and musicianship that can be applied to any style of playing . I prefer teaching intermediate to advanced students who have hit a plateau in their development.
I really enjoy teaching the craft of songwriting. In these lessons I not only discuss how to write music but also lyric writing as well. I'm a true fan of good songwriting and I love to pass my love of the craft on to aspiring songwriters.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to helping you reach your musical goals!
