Trevor Hammons

Hello there, my name is Trevor Hammons. I have played Old-Time Claw hammer Banjo for 20 years. I am a decedent of The Legendary Hammons Family from Pocahontas Co WV. I also play Old-Time Fiddle as well. Old-Time music has had a huge impact on my life. I love Passing down my Families Tunes to everyone! I have played in many Banjo competitions, and go to many music festivals! If you have ever had the itch to learn an instrument, it is never to late. Come join me!

My First teacher Was a lady named Pam Lund. She had the best teaching style I have ever seen. She taught me everything she could, and if it wasn't for her I would not be where I am today. She taught me completely by ear. This is the best way to learn in my opinion. It forces you to use your senses and really learn something. No music reading. You would be surprised how fast you can learn to play Claw Hammer Banjo! Anyone can play at any age.

I also learned from from Tim Bing as well as many other Claw Hammer masters. Tim plays the Hammons Tunes very well and understands every aspect of them, also if it wasn't for him and Pam, I would have no Contest Tunes! Tim's teaching style is different from Pam's and is more straight forward, I like putting a sweet mix of both with a touch of my own style.
