About
I have been playing the piano since I was 7 years old. That's been 45 (yes) I said (45) years ago! I'm old. I'm married and have four adult children. I have a crazy cat named Lady. She rolls around like a dog. I love to crochet, knit and machine embroider and other hand crafts in my free time. I love to read. At this point in time Brandon Sanderson is my favorite author. At church I teach the nursery class (18 mo to 3 yo). They keep me young. I don't think I have grown up yet. Someday I may, but not right now. I love nature, cooking and spending time with my family.
I have been teaching for 30 years. I am a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music through the Music Teachers National Association. I have maintained my certification for close to 20 years.
My studio has a relaxed, laid back atmosphere so student can feel comfortable in creating their own music as well as learning the music of the masters. I teach skills to help student play by ear, compose, and collaborate with others. In Studio students also have a 30 minute lab each work to work on lead sheets, composing, transcribing, etc. I use a flip-learning approach to theory. Students will have access to multiple websites with recordings, theory instuction videos and other materials.
I try to tailor lessons to each student; their needs, goals and interests.
I am a member of the Music Teachers National Association, the Utah Music Teachers Association and am a founding member of the Tooele Valley Music Teachers Association
I certified as Teacher of Music (piano) through the MTNA.
I use the Piano Adventures method for most of my beginners. I do have other methods that I use as needed, Piano Pronto, Supersonics, and Carol Matz Interactive Piano. There is also the option of going method-less, focusing on the skills that are in each piece of music. I also have a vast library of studio licensed materials that I share with students, most of them without cost to you.
