About

I have been teaching for over 25 years and I have studied with Frank Kocman (student of Nilo Hovey), Larry Allen (student of Robert Bloom & Humbert Lucarelli), Hollis Ulaky (Principal Oboist of Charlotte Symphony Orchestra), and Amanda Hardy (Principal Oboist of Portland Symphony Orchestra- student of John Ferrillo). I earned a Bachelor of Music in oboe performance in 2000 from Valparaiso University and have studied at Winthrop University for a masters in oboe performance. I have taught at music studios throughout Indiana, Illinois, North Carolina, and Massachusetts. I have taught as a private and group instructor for high school, middle, and elementary bands in Concord and Kannapolis, NC and taught in community education in Chelmsford, MA. I also have taught at music camps hosted by Valparaiso University and been a judge in Bloomington-Normal, IL for All-District Solo Contest. I have performed and solo performed with the Lake Norman Orchestra, with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Valparaiso University, Winthrop University, Charlotte Concert Band, in churches throughout the United States and in many musicals since 1999.

I teach the basics of breathing, form, and embouchure paired with an emphasis on music theory, scales, and classical preparation, so that each student will get a solid background in learning and loving to play woodwinds. I teach jazz and specialize in swing, funk, Latin, and rock. I specialize in double reeds, reed making, and teaching neuro-diverse students and have taught students who have autism, ADHD, anxiety, and mood disorders.

I teach oboe from the Gekler method, Ferling Studies, Barret Oboe Method, Vade Mecum, and all of the standard oboe solo repertoire. I teach saxophone from the Rubank methods and Supplementary Studies, Voxman Selected Studies, Nilo Hovey Practical Studies, Joseph Sellner Method, Guy Lacour 50 Progressive Studies Bk. 1 & 2, Classic Festival Solos, Concert & Contest Collection Solos, Lennie Niehaus Jazz Conception series, and the standard solo repertoire. I teach clarinet from the Rubank methods and Supplementary Studies, Rose 32 Etudes, J.B. Albert Scales and Exercises, Concert & Contest Collection Solos, Classic Festival Solos, The Clarinet Collection Solo Books, Progressive Duets, and the standard clarinet solo repertoire.
