I am a licensed math teacher offering personalized support in Algebra 1 and Advanced Algebra. I received a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Cloud State University and a B.S. in Mathematics from Minnesota State University, and have taught students in a high school setting and online. My online tutoring offers an environment where students can make mistakes and ask questions safely. I am patient, kind and have a keen sense of intuition when working with students. My goal is to restore faith in the students' abilities, to build confidence in working through difficult tasks and to help students acquire a sense of accomplishment.
With over 30 year of experience in the classroom, I have learned how difficult it is when a student falls behind in their courses. I believe that getting help early and often are the keys to success when learning math. Students tell me that I am an effective tutor who knows when to nudge, when to wait for a connection and when to lead a student to a conclusion on their own. I help identify learning gaps, close those gaps and develop a math mindset. I believe students who are able to overcome challenging obstacles in their life with the strength and support of their families, tutors, and teachers are much more empowered to conquer their fears and thrive in their future.
I create a customized lesson plan to meet the goals of the students. I design lessons to give a quick refresher of challenging content. I also identify and reinforce prerequisite skills before a teacher has taught a lesson and help students with homework.
