Xeniah Baaklini
About
I'm Xeniah! I'm located in the Las Vegas area where I am currently studying music tech and jazz composition. My areas of focus are in jazz/rock/blues guitar, classical/jazz/blues violin, music composition, conducting, and beginning to advanced level music theory. I play in an indie pop/rock band called The Downstairs Project, and I have played in many jazz ensembles throughout the valley. I am an active member in the Nevada Chamber Orchestra, Henderson Symphony Orchestra, and Las Vegas Ragtime Orchestra, as well as being a participant in the local blues jams and occasionally hosting jams myself. I've participated in many classical solo competitions and gotten superior ratings at solo festivals.
Teaching Style
I find it crucial for the student to understand the theory behind their favorite songs and why things sound the way that they do.
For violin students- We will spend the first part of our lesson doing scales/warmups. We will look through the Wohlfahrt Sixty Studies for the Violin book and then I will provide the student with a solo piece that will be decently difficult for them, and we will work through the solo piece until they feel comfortable performing it.
For guitar students- We will spend the first part of our lesson doing basic finger independence warmups, and we will do scales if the student so pleases. I will ask the student what song they'd like to learn that day, and we will listen to the song and work through it. We will discuss the theory behind the song (eg. chord structure, scales/arpeggios used in solos, etc.) and we'll close the lesson by talking about the plan for the next lesson.
