About

A resident of NYC with over 5 years worth of tutoring experience, Ya Sheng is currently pursuing his JD at Yale Law School. He attended boarding school at Phillips Exeter Academy and later went on to study at Princeton University, graduating in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Politics. There, he studied Political Theory and obtained certificates in Values & Public Life and Italian Language & Culture. Upon graduating from college, he moved to the UK to pursue a Master of Philosophy in Political Thought and Intellectual History at King's College, University of Cambridge. Upon his return from the UK, Ya Sheng spent the next 9 months as an Admissions Counselor at The TEAK Fellowship, an educational non-profit helping gifted but under-served students from NYC gain admission into highly competitive secondary schools and colleges in America.

When he's not contemplating the origins of the modern state or the legal status of corporate entities, Ya Sheng enjoys participating in ballroom dancing competitions in the US and abroad - including the USADance Nationals and the Blackpool Dance Festival. During his time at Cambridge, he not only competed against Oxford University at the annual Varsity match but was also invited to represent Cambridge at an international ballroom dance competition in Beijing, China. Upon graduating, Ya Sheng was awarded a Half-Blue from the Cambridge Blues committee and inducted into the Hawks' Club.

Throughout his academic journey, Ya Sheng has worked with many middle-school, high-school, and college students - both in an in-person as well as remote capacity. While he holds his students to a high standard and is motivated to help them excel both in the classroom as well as on standardized exams, he feels most accomplished and satisfied when his students develop an organic love of learning and an ability to self-diagnose their own weaknesses. When teaching, he seeks to imbue his students with a deep understanding of key mathematical concepts and discourages the rote memorization of formulas and short-hands.  He is eager to take on students at any stage of their academic journey and development.
