About

Zach Marley is an award-winning low brass artist and teacher. Equally versed on all low brass instruments, Zach has been very successful in international competitions on multiple instruments. He was awarded second prize in the prestigious Leonard Falcone Artist Tuba competition in 2015, 2016, and 2018. During the International Tuba Euphonium Conference in 2016, Zach was a semifinalist in the Artist Tuba competition and was awarded second prize in the Rich Matteson Jazz competition in which he played euphonium. At the 2017 International Women’s Brass Conference Zach won first prize on euphonium, second prize on tuba and third in the overall instrument round.

An active teacher as well as performer, Zach has a private studio of both in person and virtual low brass students ranging from beginner to advanced. Zach has held positions at several Universities including; the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Southeastern Oklahoma State and Tarleton State University.

Zach has had the pleasure of performing with many great artists such as Wycliffe Gordon, Bob Mintzer, Andy Martin, Roger Ingram, Brian MacDonald, Marshall Gilkes, Jiggs Whigham, John Fedchock, Denis DiBlasio, Gordon Goodwin, Tom “Bones” Malone, Eugene Rousseau, Sal Lozano, Bernard Wright, Peter Erskine and John Clayton. Zach has also performed with the Dallas Winds and has been a semifinalist for multiple major orchestral positions.

Recently, Zach has completed his doctoral coursework and is now ABD at the University of North Texas. He also holds a master’s degree in music performance from Northwestern University as well as two undergraduate degrees in jazz studies and music performance from the University of North Texas.

Zach Marley performs exclusively on Denis Wick mutes and mouthpieces.

Zach is known for his fun and engaging teaching style and his genuine love for music shines through. Understanding that each student is a unique player and learner, he tailors his teaching to each student.

Having taught beginners through college students and professionals, Zach is able to take any level of student and advance their playing as well as expand their knowledge of music and their instrument. With his diverse musical background, he is able to help students with a variety of important skills such as fundamentals, improvisation, solo playing, chamber music, ensemble playing, auditions, lead playing, popular music performance, recording, and music theory.

Students of Zach Marley have gone on to study at prestigious universities such as the University of North Texas, University of Miami (FL), Oklahoma State University, Elmhurst College as well as win major auditions and music competitions.
