Zayn Mir

As a classically trained tenor and music educator, I teach voice, piano, and music theory with an emphasis on healthy technique, strong musicianship, and individual artistic expression. Since 2024, I have taught students from ages 6 to 60 at Meter Music School in my hometown of Seattle. Immersed in the Pacific Northwest arts scene, I work as a professional church musician and have collaborated with organizations including Lowbrow Opera Collective and Choral Arts Northwest. I have also appeared at Cascade Song Festival and Seattle Bach Festival.

My training includes advanced study in voice and piano at the University of Washington, where I am completing a Bachelor of Music in Voice. I have been recognized for academic and artistic achievement through awards including the Peeler-Horan Scholarship for the Performing Arts, the Mary Katherine Mackenzie and Mary Ann Whitmore Endowed Scholarship, and First Place in the Western Washington NATS competition.

I am passionate about making music accessible and meaningful for all learners, especially individuals who may not have seen themselves represented in music education. I particularly specialize in working with transgender vocalists and students with neurodevelopmental disabilities. My goal is to create a supportive environment where every student can develop their skills, confidence, and unique artistic voice.

I've been teaching private voice, piano, and music theory lessons for 3 years and currently teach about 15 students in Seattle, mostly in-person and some online. 

I aim to create a strong technical foundation for students while engaging with their interests and self-expression. In voice and piano lessons, I focus on building healthy, effective technique and teach the fundamentals of musicianship with basic elements of music theory, sight reading, and ear training. In music theory lessons, I can delve deeper into form, motivic development, phrase structure, and harmonic analysis. 

I teach across a wide variety of styles, including jazz, musical theatre, and classical.

I teach novice to intermediate piano (intermediate example: Clementi Sonatinas, Chopin Waltzes).
