Arpan Kumar
About
Hi, I'm Arpan Kumar, a professional guitarist, bassist, songwriter, producer, and music educator from New Delhi with over 7 years of teaching experience.
I'm the frontman and guitarist of the indie band Green Park, with whom I've released two critically acclaimed albums, opened for Green Day, and performed at festivals including Lollapalooza India, NH7 Weekender, and Echoes of Earth. Alongside my work with Green Park, I've performed as a session musician with artists such as Madboy/Mink, Dohnraj and The Peculiars, Shauharty & Da Rookhs, Silk Soul, and DEE EN. I've also collaborated on projects with brands including Netflix, Converse, Zomato, Bloom, and Greater Than.
I completed Grade 7 from Rockschool London under the guidance of Sonam Sherpa (Parikrama).
As a teacher, I believe every student learns differently. My lessons are personalised to your goals, whether you're picking up the guitar for the first time, preparing for performances, improving your technique, learning music theory, writing original songs, or developing your improvisation skills. I focus on building strong fundamentals while making lessons engaging, practical, and centred around the music you love.
My experience as a touring and recording musician allows me to offer insights that go beyond technique, including live performance, songwriting, arranging, recording, and working with other musicians.
Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced player looking to take your musicianship to the next level, I'd love to help you achieve your musical goals.
Teaching Style
I believe the best way to learn guitar is by playing music you genuinely love. Every lesson is tailored to your goals, musical taste, and experience level, whether you're a complete beginner or an advanced player. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all curriculum, I combine technical development with practical application, helping students build strong fundamentals while learning songs they enjoy.
My lessons cover technique, rhythm, music theory, ear training, improvisation, songwriting, and performance, with a strong emphasis on understanding the "why" behind what you're playing. I encourage students to ask questions, experiment creatively, and develop their own musical voice instead of simply memorising songs or exercises.
Having spent years performing, touring, recording, and writing music professionally, I also share practical insights into live performance, collaborating with other musicians, and the creative process. My goal is to create a relaxed, supportive environment where students feel challenged, inspired, and excited to keep making music long after each lesson.
Curriculum
My teaching method is student-centred and tailored to each individual's goals, musical interests, and learning style. I combine practical playing with a solid understanding of technique, rhythm, music theory, ear training, improvisation, and songwriting. Rather than following a fixed curriculum, I create personalised lesson plans that keep students engaged by incorporating songs and artists they enjoy while building strong fundamentals.
Depending on the student's level and objectives, I use a combination of my own lesson materials, chord charts, tabs, lead sheets, backing tracks, and selected resources from Rockschool, Hal Leonard, Berklee Online, and JustinGuitar. For beginners, I focus on developing confidence and good technique, while more advanced students explore improvisation, songwriting, arranging, performance skills, and musicianship. Each lesson includes clear goals and practice strategies to support consistent progress.
