Brooke Richey
About
Brooke is a 20+ year vocalist, indie-rock artist and film composer. After earning her Master of Music in scoring for games and media in 2021, Brooke became an award-winning film composer at the Seattle Indies Awards in August 2024 (third place). She has composed for several short films and projects, letting her love for telling story shine through the screen in her compositions. As a vocalist, Brooke has performed on countless stages in the Pacific Northwest with her band Black Bird Collective, and as a jazz singer from time to time. In 2018 and 19, prior to going back to school, Brooke completed two rounds of masterclasses with Maestra Sarah Ioannides of Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, at the Cascade Conducting Masterclass, where she had her debut orchestral conducting performance of Mozarts Concerto No. 4, Mov. 2. Her career in music first began on the trumpet in grade school. While she dropped the instrument in her high school years to focus on her voice, Brooke has gone on to record remotely and locally, and has performed with groups in the Pacific Norhwest, including Seattle Sounders Soundwave.
Teaching Style
Brooke is methodical in approach and has a strong ear and eye for nuances and inconsistencies which may hold a student back from their optimal level. She balances this with a fun and energetic spirit in sessions to keep the heart around music and art alive. Her focus is working with students and meeting them at their level, helping them expand, rather than demand results.
