Caitlin Calvert

Caitlin has been teaching music for over 16 years and performing for over 23 years. Her musical experience encompasses a wide range of styles, including classical, Celtic, pop, rock, and jazz, giving her a versatile approach to both playing and teaching. Her main goal as a teacher is to make lessons approachable and engaging, and she strongly believes in customizing lesson plans for each individual student based on their interests, goals, and playing level. 

Caitlin earned her Bachelor of Music from Middle Tennessee State University. She has privileged to study with highly respected teachers and performers, including classical violin with Karen Clarke, Celtic fiddle with Daniel Carwile, and jazz and electric violin with Tracy Silverman. She has also studied classical piano with Paula Bell and jazz piano with Pat Coil.

As a performer, Caitlin has worked and recorded with many different groups, including her own violin and cello duo, Singin’ Strings, and as a violinist for Roy “Futureman” Wooten's Black Mozart Ensemble.

My biggest goals as a teacher are to help you work toward your goals and make music as approachable as possible. I also aim to give my students as comprehensive an understanding of music as possible, sharing everything you need to know to comfortably and easily make progress. This means I often include music theory, ear training, and rhythm training in lessons in addition to learning songs, scales, and technique. I have experience with a number of different teaching methods, so I draw from these to help create an approach that works best for each individual student, taking into account their learning style, interests, goals, and current level of experience.

I welcome students who want to learn through traditional methods, as well as those who want to explore improvisation, learn by ear, or develop their own creative voice. Whether you're looking for a structured approach to building your technique or want to learn how to make music more freely and intuitively, I aim to meet you where you are and help you develop the skills you need to become the musician you want to be.

Students of all ages are welcome. I teach beginner through advanced violin and viola, and beginner through intermediate piano.
