안녕하세요! My name is Chiwon.

I’m a certified Korean language teacher with over 10 years of teaching experience, and I specialize in helping learners build confidence and make steady progress in Korean. I hold a Master’s degree in Korean Education for Foreigners and a Bachelor’s degree in Korean Language and Literature, as well as a Korean Language Teacher Certification issued by the Korean government. In 2025, I also earned my Virginia Provisional Teaching License in Korean and ESOL, qualifying me to teach in both public and private K–12 settings.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to teach learners from a wide range of cultural and professional backgrounds in both Korea and the United States. My experience includes working with adult professionals, including learners in government and public-sector roles, as well as students studying Korean for academic, professional, and personal goals.

My teaching approach combines a strong academic foundation with practical, real-world language use. I believe effective language learning should be structured and goal-oriented, but also engaging and enjoyable. In my lessons, I focus on helping students develop a solid understanding of Korean grammar and vocabulary while encouraging them to speak naturally and confidently.

As someone who has also spent many years learning English as a second language, I understand how challenging it can be to learn and communicate in another language, especially while living in a foreign environment. This experience helps me relate to my students and support them with patience, encouragement, and practical strategies throughout their learning journey.

Whether you are a complete beginner, studying Korean for work or school, or looking to improve your speaking and overall fluency, I will tailor our lessons to your level, needs, and goals.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing tennis, reading Korean webtoons, and traveling. I always enjoy bringing new topics, perspectives, and positive energy into my lessons.

I offer structured lessons using textbooks for those who want to build a strong foundation in Korean. This way, you’ll not only get a solid grasp of grammar but also improve your reading, listening, and speaking skills. But if your main goal is to boost your speaking fluency and pronunciation, we can focus on conversation-based classes where I’ll provide helpful feedback throughout each lesson.

I’m really flexible when it comes to your goals and interests, so don’t hesitate to let me know what you’d like to focus on. During our lessons, I try to speak as much Korean as possible, but I’ll adjust the amount depending on your level to make sure you feel comfortable and confident.
