About
I took private weekly lessons from age 10 until 16. I followed with practice and three years of music college and began teaching immediately after I got home from Berklee College of Music in Boston. I taught music for Howren Music Company until I moved to Hawaii, Home of the Ukulele, and lived most of my life. I recently was the Ukulele Consultant for Aloha Music, now closed, and featured on their You Tube Chanel teaching groups and jam sessions. I also taught Internationally online. The ukulele is the best musical instrument for you to have music in your life, home and family as fast and easy as possible, especially with my style of teaching which is listening to what you want to achieve and my art is knowing what to teach you and when to teach you for you to reach your goal as fast as possible. You will learn as fast as you want and can comfortably handle. It gives me tremendous pleasure to see my students become musicians !
Teaching Style
My Mom would drive me across town once a week for six years for my music lessons. Eventually my wonderful teacher would hand me papers for the entire guitar part for a very popular song every week which I would learn then play for him the next week before he handed me another song. One week I asked him "Steve, why don't you teach me how to write these parts for songs by myself?" Steve replied "Because you won't come in every week for a lesson and give me $10 any more" That was my last lesson with Steve. We both had achieved our goals. Unfortunately music lessons are not like marriage "until death do us part", ha. My #1 objective is to get my student away from me as quick as I can. How ?.....by teaching them the basics as easy, simply, quickly, with as little wasted time and frustration as possible saving money and having you become a musician who reaches their goal. You are an individual and get to chose your own goals. I do not use any of the courses I have created because they are for groups. Each lesson is created for you each week from my library.
Curriculum
I refer to my "method" as the KISS Method which stands for Keep It Simple Stupid, "stupid" referring to me.. Teaching is the art of knowing what to teach and when to present it. I know "how" to present it. There are basics that everyone needs to know like posture, how to learn chords with muscle memory and how not to, most commonly used chords, strumming, tuning and reading TABlature for ukulele. You will be amazed at how easy it is to learn music and to play. These are all extremely simple things and this is where the KISS Method really shines. ....no wasted time, ......Happiness
