About

I am a professional violinist and dedicated violin teacher based in São Paulo, Brazil, with eight years of experience teaching the violin. My teaching combines solid technical training with an individualized and attentive approach, helping students understand not only what to practice, but also how and why to practice it.

My formal musical education includes the course “Interpretation of Arias and Songs on String Instruments” at EMESP – Escola de Música do Estado de São Paulo, which I attended in 2020 and 2021. I have also studied with several accomplished Brazilian violinists. I studied with Daniel Barbosa from 2017 to 2023, with Wellington Rebouças in 2019, and with Paulo Calligopoulos from 2020 to 2022. Calligopoulos is a violinist and member of the Orchestra of the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo. From 2020 to 2021, I also pursued specialized studies in the Dounis approach with Paulo Calligopoulos, focusing on violin technique and efficient instrumental practice.

My professional performance experience includes participating as a first violinist in the Festival Internacional Sérgio Chnee (FISC) in Campinas in 2018, performing as a first violinist with the Orquestra Filarmônica das Artes in São Paulo in 2019, and participating as a first violinist in the Orquestra Comunitária da EMESP in São Paulo from 2020 to 2021. These experiences allowed me to develop my musicianship through ensemble playing, rehearsals, performances, and collaboration with other musicians in different professional and educational environments.

Teaching has been an important part of my professional musical life since 2018. I began teaching private violin lessons in 2018 and also taught at Escola Projeto Sonoro in São Paulo from 2018 to 2019. Since 2021, I have been teaching at PGY in São Paulo. Throughout these years, I have worked with students at different stages, from complete beginners to more experienced violinists.

I teach both children and adults and adapt each lesson according to the student’s age, previous experience, personality, musical interests, and goals. My lessons focus on developing a strong technical foundation while encouraging students to become independent and thoughtful musicians. I pay particular attention to posture, bow technique, intonation, coordination, musical phrasing, listening, and effective practice habits.

I believe that understanding the purpose behind an exercise is just as important as performing it correctly. Rather than simply assigning exercises, I guide students in understanding how each element of their practice contributes to their overall development as violinists. My goal is to create lessons that are structured, personalized, and musically engaging while maintaining high technical and artistic standards.

I currently offer violin lessons both in São Paulo and online, working with students internationally. Whether a student is picking up the violin for the first time, returning to the instrument after a break, or looking to develop greater technical control and musical expression, I tailor the lessons to their individual needs and long-term goals.

Teaching Style

I believe that learning the violin should be both structured and enjoyable.

The violin can be demanding, and many students become frustrated because they try to solve technical problems without fully understanding what is causing them. My approach is to break complex skills into clear, manageable steps and help the student develop a strong technical foundation while maintaining musicality and motivation.

My teaching is influenced by classical violin traditions and incorporates elements of the Suzuki and Dounis approaches. The Suzuki method emphasizes learning through listening, repetition, and the development of musicality from an early stage, while the Dounis approach focuses on analytical technical development, coordination, and efficient, problem-solving practice, particularly in the development of listening, coordination, relaxation, technical precision, and efficient movement.

I pay particular attention to:

  • Posture and freedom of movement
  • Bow technique and sound production
  • Left-hand technique and intonation
  • Coordination between both hands
  • Rhythm and musical phrasing
  • Developing a beautiful and controlled sound
  • Efficient and intelligent practice
  • Musical expression and interpretation
  • Building confidence while performing

Curriculum

The Dounis and Suzuki Approaches

The Dounis Approach

My teaching incorporates principles from the Dounis method, developed by the renowned Greek violin pedagogue Demetrius Dounis.

Dounis placed great importance on understanding the physical mechanics of violin playing. His approach focuses on natural movement, coordination, relaxation, precision, and efficiency, helping the violinist avoid unnecessary tension and movements.

Rather than simply repeating a technical exercise, I encourage students to understand what they are doing and why it works. We analyze the movement, identify unnecessary effort, and develop more efficient coordination between the hands and the rest of the body.

I find this approach particularly valuable for developing left-hand technique, finger independence, shifting, bow control, coordination, intonation, and overall freedom of movement.

The Suzuki Method

I also incorporate principles from the Suzuki Method, particularly its emphasis on listening, imitation, repetition, musical memory, and developing musicality from an early stage.

The Suzuki philosophy views musical learning as a process that develops naturally through careful listening and consistent practice. Students first learn to hear and recognize musical patterns before gradually developing the ability to reproduce and interpret them independently.

I particularly value this approach because it helps students develop a strong musical ear, sense of intonation, phrasing, rhythm, and expressive awareness, rather than treating technique and musicality as separate elements.
