DeAundre Woods
About
DeAundre’ Woods is a Broadway performer, vocalist, actor, and teaching artist whose career has taken him from Broadway stages to national and international tours, concert performances, and classrooms across the country.
His professional credits include MJ: The Musical on Broadway, where he served as the MJ Standby, as well as multiple productions of Hamilton, performing as Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr across the U.S. and internationally. His credits also include Motown: The Musical, along with extensive work as a vocalist, actor, and concert performer.
DeAundre’s approach to teaching draws directly from years spent working professionally at a high level—auditioning, rehearsing, performing eight-show weeks, stepping into leading roles, collaborating with creative teams, and learning how to remain truthful and connected under pressure.
Rather than simply teaching students how to sing a song correctly, DeAundre’ helps artists understand what they are saying, why they are saying it, and how to communicate it truthfully. His coaching combines vocal performance, acting through song, storytelling, audition preparation, performance confidence, and artist development.
He has worked with students and emerging artists through masterclasses, university programs, workshops, and individual coaching, helping performers bridge the gap between technique and real-world performance.
DeAundre’ enjoys working with artists at different stages of their development, from students finding their voice to professionals preparing for the next room. The goal is simple: do the work, stay curious, and keep growing.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is direct, encouraging, curious, and rooted in truth. I want students to feel comfortable taking risks, making discoveries, and trying things without feeling like they have to get everything “right.”
I approach each student as an individual. Some artists need more technical specificity, while others need help getting out of their heads, trusting their instincts, or connecting more deeply to the material. My job is to figure out what you need and meet you there.
Much of my approach comes from my own experience as a working performer. I focus on acting through song, storytelling, vocal freedom, intention, presence, and making clear choices rather than simply producing a polished sound.
I also believe in asking questions. What are you saying? Who are you saying it to? Why does it matter? What changes because you said it? Those questions often lead us somewhere much more interesting than simply trying to “perform” a song.
Above all, I want our sessions to feel like a room where you can work—focused and challenging, but also open, playful, and honest.
