Deepak Verma
About
I am a flamenco guitarist based between India and Spain. I was born in the Himalayan Mountains and grew up in Mumbai. For many years, I was primarily a rock guitarist. I studied jazz, Indian music, harmony and theory before flamenco took over my life. My life changed when I met Amir John Haddad (El Amir), and I had the amazing opportunity to build my foundations with him at his residence in Madrid. I returned to Spain to study accompaniment for dance and singing with various teachers such as Eduardo Rebollar (AER), Alfredo Lagos, José Gálvez and Juan del Gastor.
Today I perform across Spain, Portugal, Slovenia and India. I have regularly worked as a studio recording artist for Bollywood composers (including Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman), and for the advertising industry in India.
Teaching Style
I work with musicians of all levels. From how to hold the guitar to advanced techniques like the tremolo. My approach is principle-based: technique, rhythm (compás) and musicality, taught step by step in small blocks. We isolate the left hand, the right hand and the rhythm, then bring them together.
There are no tricks or shortcuts in art. I concentrate on perfecting your foundation, setting you up for a lifelong journey of growth that continues long after you've completed the programme. Almost all my students stay in touch, and we've grown a flourishing community of hobbyists and artists who help each other grow.
I also use "konnakol" ( The south-indian language of rhythm) to help breakdown complex flamenco rhythms.
