About

Heidi Wallace Leftwich is a musical theatre educator, voice teacher, and professional performer with over 15 years of experience helping singers of all ages develop healthy vocal technique, confident performance skills, and a love for music.

After studying Musical Theatre at Oklahoma City University, Heidi built a performance career spanning regional theatre, concert work, and national touring productions. Her stage credits include the national tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as well as productions of Bright Star, Les Misérables, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, The Music Man in Concert, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, La Cage aux Folles, The Wedding Singer, and Avenue Q.

As an educator, Heidi has taught private voice, acting, beginning piano, music theory, audition preparation, and musical theatre performance through private studios, performing arts academies, and children's theatre programs. She has also successfully taught students online, creating engaging virtual lessons that combine strong vocal foundations with creativity, storytelling, and performance confidence. Heidi believes every student has a unique voice worth developing. Her teaching style balances healthy vocal technique with artistry, encouraging students to explore character, connect emotionally to the music, and build confidence both onstage and in everyday life. Whether working with a beginner discovering their first song or an experienced performer preparing for auditions, she strives to create a supportive environment where students feel challenged, encouraged, and inspired.

In addition to her performing arts background, Heidi brings extensive experience working with neurodivergent learners and students with diverse learning styles. She is passionate about adapting instruction to meet individual needs while maintaining high expectations, ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed and experience the joy of making music.

Above all, Heidi believes great singing begins with authentic storytelling. Technique provides the foundation, but communication, curiosity, and confidence are what transform a song into a memorable performance.

Anyone can sing. Every story has a voice.

Teaching Style

My teaching style begins with meeting each student exactly where they are and building from there. Every singer brings a different voice, personality, learning style, and set of goals, so I adapt my instruction to the person in front of me rather than expecting every student to fit one method. I strive to create an encouraging, inclusive space where students feel comfortable experimenting, making mistakes, and discovering what their voices can do.

A typical lesson begins with a short, approachable music-theory concept, followed by targeted warmups and vocal technique. We then apply that technique directly to repertoire, stopping and starting as needed to work through specific moments in the song. This helps students understand not only what to change, but why it works and how to reproduce it independently. I also incorporate acting, interpretation, and confidence-building so students learn to communicate a story—not simply sing the correct notes.

Curriculum

Teaching Method: I use an individualized, student-centered approach that meets each singer at their current level and builds from there. Lessons combine bite-sized music theory, targeted vocal warmups and technique, and direct application to repertoire. We stop and revisit sections of a song as needed so students understand how to apply healthy technique independently. I also incorporate acting, interpretation, audition preparation, and confidence-building when appropriate.

Recommended Student Texts: Materials are selected individually according to each student’s age, experience, vocal needs, and musical interests. I use age-appropriate sheet music, legal accompaniment tracks, vocal exercises, and teacher-created resources. When helpful, I may recommend a music-theory workbook, flash cards  or musical-theatre anthology, but students are not required to purchase a standard textbook before beginning lessons.
