Jamie Howell
About
I am an experienced music educator with over 30 years of teaching instrumental music, now specializing in Flute and woodwind instruction. I hold Bachelor's (1995) and Master's (1999) degrees in Music Education from Troy University. I have taught students of all ages, from beginners to college-level musicians. I spent most of my career at Excel High School; a small rural school and spent the last 7 years of my Public School career in a larger area as a Band Director in Dothan City Schools. I have also taught adjunct at Alabama Southern Community College in Monroeville, Alabama and I am currently the Woodwind Instructor at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama.
I retired from the State of Alabama in 2022 with 27 years in Music Education. I worked in sales at a Music store over the past 4 years but continued to be a guest clinician throughout South Alabama, West Georgia and the Florida panhandle. I am excited about teaching privately full time and plan to teach in my home, virtually and at Faulkner University.
I have been performing for over 40 years. I have been Principal Flautist of the Southeast Alabama Community Band since 2000. In 2022 I was a featured soloist with the Band and peformed the "Theme from Schindlers List" by John Williams. I also perform at my church and in Community Orchestras during the holidays.
Teaching Style
With more than 30 years of experience in music education, I have dedicated my career to developing outstanding instrumental music programs and inspiring students of all ages to achieve musical excellence. Holding both a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Science in Music Education, I have served as a band director, choir director, adjunct instructor, and private woodwind instructor across K–12 schools and higher education. Throughout my career, my ensembles have consistently earned Superior Ratings at state and regional festivals, and my students have been selected for District, Collegiate, and All-State Honor Bands. In addition to teaching, I have served as an adjudicator for prestigious music festivals and the National Flute Association, held leadership positions within the Alabama Bandmasters Association, and presented as a guest clinician throughout Alabama and Florida. My passion for music education, personalized instruction, and student success continues through university teaching, private instruction, and mentoring the next generation of musicians.
