About

Australian born Violist Jeremy Egerton has worked with many renowned chamber ensembles and musicians in national and international festivals such as the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s Academy Program, the Adam Summer School of Chamber music (New Zealand), and the Meadowmount School of Music (Westport NY). He has also toured nationally with the Australian Youth Orchestra, performing under the baton of renowned British conductor Sir Mark Elder. Jeremy completed his Bachelors Degree at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, a Masters degree in viola performance at the University of Massachusetts in the United States, and a graduate Diploma at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Jeremy has seven years of teaching experience, teaching students of all ages and levels. During his Masters degree he was employed by the University of Massachusetts as Graduate String Quartet quartet violist and as a Teaching Assistant, requiring him to schedule and teach weekly violin and viola lessons and to lead class activities for the General Music class.

Teaching Style

My violin and viola lessons are tailored towards students of all ages, with lessons based around their current musical and personal needs.

I have experience in many practices such as stretching, relaxation, technical work (scales, exercises, etc.), musical games as well as various other learning activities.

I focus a lot on releasing restrictive tension in the body, as my goal is to give my students the maximum freedom they can have to express themselves.

I aspire to teach fun and engaging lessons, with consideration on how music fits into the students everyday life; I endeavour to enable them to thrive not only as a musician, but as a human being.

Curriculum

Emily - I have known Jeremy for many years now, and he is honestly one of the kindest, most gentle people I know. He would certainly be the perfect teacher for any young student, and his extensive formal musical training ensures that he will meet the unique demands of each individual student. I can't recommend him highly enough as a violin/viola teacher, but also as a mentor and role model for any young students looking to learn from him.

Alexander - Very calm and patient with all levels of music proficiency. 5 stars!

Ho-se - Jeremy is a great musician who is very kind, thoughtful and friendly. He is very understanding of others and I have a newfound respect for him because of that.

Isabella - Jeremy has a very kind nature and is extremely knowledgeable, a great teacher.

Julia - I have been working alongside Jeremy in various contexts over the last few years. He commits to everything he does, always has helpful suggestions and a great sense of humour! With over a decade worth of musical knowledge, Jeremy would be a fantastic teacher as he would do everything he can to give his students the best learning experience.

Eden - Jeremy is a fantastic viola player who will teach any student to master and create amazing string sounds! He is friendly and encouraging to everyone.

Simon - I have worked with Jeremy for 3 years now and he is a fantastic colleague and genuine person. Jeremy’s musicianship is incredibly inspiring and I believe he would be a fantastic teacher for anyone.
