Joseph Goduto

I am a rising senior at Shenandoah Conservatory studying Piano and Viola. I have studied with Steinway Artist Dr. Eric Fung, Professor Doris Lederer of the Audubon Quartet, Professor Rochelle Agnew of the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra, and Grammy Nominated Pianist Marika Bournaki. They have been the basis for my instrument specific approach to pedagogy and technique; heavily influenced by Galamian, Karen Tuttle, and the Taubman approach. Regarding music literacy, my teaching approach is derived from methods authorized by Dr. Edwin Gordon, Dr. Carol Krueger and Dr. Hillary Ridgley. I use a system of education that emphasizes technique, music literacy (reading, writing, improvising and audiating), and harmony skills to empower students to become fully independent musicians. I am an active chamber performer, accompanist and educator. I have been hired as a violist, accompanist, and lesson teacher since becoming a college student and am an active chamber musician. In 2019 I was the semi-finalist at the Rosalyn Tureck International Bach Competition, I was a member of the Central Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra in the 2022-2023 season, I was a semi-finalist in the Shenandoah Conservatory Concerto Competition in 2025, and I have participated in the Lancaster International Piano and Chamber Music Festival from 2022-2025. 

I always try to make a positive environment for the students and celebrate the frequent small improvements! During the lesson, technique, music literacy, and harmony skills are emphasized of equal importance. I utilize research based techniques to facilitate deeper understanding of musical concepts. Targeting the different learning styles through using kinesthetics, visuals (with color adaptations), and aural discrimination/inference learning, helps students process musical concepts and empowers them to take ownership of their abilities. The lesson is fast paced and fun but the curriculum moves slow to ensure ample practice for each concept.
