Hi! I’m Katie, a professional musician and private flute instructor with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from Oklahoma City University’s Wanda L. Bass School of Music, where I studied flute under Parthena Owens. I have additional graduate-level study in Music Performance and years of experience performing and teaching music.

I teach flute students of a variety of ages and experience levels, from beginners learning their very first notes to more advanced students looking to strengthen their technique, tone, musicality, and confidence. I also have experience performing with ensembles including Tulsa Winds and the East Texas Symphonic Band.

Whether you’re picking up the flute for the first time, returning to it after years away, or wanting to take your playing to the next level, my goal is to help you become a confident, capable, and expressive musician while developing a genuine love for playing the flute.

I want my students to leave each lesson feeling like they learned something new, accomplished something, and are excited to keep playing!

Throughout my musical career, I have had extensive experience performing in both large and small ensembles. While at Oklahoma City University, I performed with their Wind Philharmonic, Symphony Orchestra where I played piccolo, multiple musicals and operas. I performed with the Oklahoma City University Flute Choir and won the concerto competition in 2004 and performed the Mozart Concerto in G Major. I have performed with the Kansas City Flute Choir and I have performed with Tulsa Winds and was a member of the East Texas Symphonic Band for five years. These experiences have given me a strong foundation in ensemble playing, musical interpretation, sight-reading, technique, and performance.

In addition to my performance experience, I have several years of experience teaching private music lessons. I have worked with students of different ages and ability levels, helping them develop strong fundamentals while building confidence and enjoyment in their instrument.

My teaching philosophy is centered around making music both educational and enjoyable. I believe students learn best when lessons are encouraging, engaging, and tailored to their individual goals. Every student is different, so I adjust my approach based on their age, experience, learning style, interests, and what they hope to accomplish.

During lessons, we may work on fundamentals such as posture, breathing, tone production, articulation, scales, technique, sight-reading, and music theory, while also spending time working on repertoire the student enjoys. For students involved in school band, I can also help with band music, auditions, chair tests, solos, All-State preparation, and overall playing confidence.
