About
I have been a professional musician and private guitar, ukulele and vocal teacher for over 23 years working and living in the UK, USA, Australia and now based in Spain. I am a great believer in learning and teaching which is a key focus in creative songwriting and performing.
I've passed on my passion for songwriting and performing to thousands of students ive taught of all age groups. I've taught ukulele, guitar and songwriting at schools in Australia for 15 years. I wrote a book Ukulele Songs By Kids For Kids which has been endorsed by the Australian education board as a learning resource. I am the founder and director of ‘Ukulele Song School Australia’ which is a successful music teaching program in Australian primary schools that has been running for 15 years.
I started playing guitar aged 8 years and went on to study privately at the Jazz conservatorium in Adelaide University until I moved to the UK aged 20 where I signed a record and publishing deal with RCA and Warner Chappel publishing. I have studied guitar with the great Mark Goldernberg (Jackson Browne, Linda Rostadt) for 15 years. Mark has taught me much of what he learnt from his teacher the master Ted Greene. I have studied voice in London for a few years with the incredible Mary Hammond. I have been studying the ronroco and the charango (Argentinian instruments) for three years with my Argentinian teacher Roman Lacrouts. I now study with Flamenco guitar with Kair Nazareo in Granada.
I have toured USA, UK and Europe solo and working touring and recording with Elton John, Paolo Nutini, Empire Of The Sun, Pnua, Eurogliders and Vika and Linda Bull. I have opened for Elvis Costello, Alanis Morisette, Paul Weller, Jason Isbell, Drive by Truckers, Robbie Fulks, Newton Faulkner and many more. In UK and USA I was signed to Sony RCA records and Warner Chappel publishing.
Teaching Style
Fun, engaging, and inspired learning with a focus on creative somposition. I dont want my students to be enthusiastic and engaged by the magic of music, rather than be bored to death.
Curriculum
I like to focus on learning songs and guitar, writing and reading Tab and eventually notation. We focus on instrumental skills with songwriting and creative somposition being at the core of the learning process. Ive taught children from age 7 up to advanced adult students. I focus on creative songwrting and composition and instrumental skills, including reading tab and notation. I work with my books Songs By Kids for Kids, which is songs my students have written in our classes.
