Liana Green
About
My musical journey began in 5th-grade band with the trumpet, igniting a lifelong pursuit of diverse musical experiences. This commitment has been constant: from my undergraduate studies at Western Washington University (2000) to earning a Master’s degree in Trumpet Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music (2003), every chapter has been musically rigorous.
After graduate school, I launched a professional performance career on the East Coast, performing in symphony orchestras, musical theatre pits, big bands, and recording studios. I have also lent my skills as a music engraver/copyist for film scores and major music publishers. Upon returning to my hometown of Seattle in 2007, I pivoted from the singular focus on the trumpet, finding a vital musical renewal. Returning to my multi-instrumentalist roots, I came back to the tuba, euphonium, trombone, and electric bass. As a tuba player, I co-founded a "defiant chamber ensemble" called 3 Horn Quartet, and I played trombone in groups like The Seattle Women's Jazz Orchestra, Mts. & Tunnels, and the Chris Poage Band. I currently play bass in The Panda Conspiracy.
This diverse background found its most practical application during my 13 years as band director at Puget Sound Community School. Through that role, I successfully developed and refined a comprehensive 6–12th grade music curriculum, synthesizing my professional performance experience into a practical, impactful educational framework that I now bring to my private instruction.
Teaching Style
I view my role less as a traditional instructor and more as a musical mentor, a partner in your musicianship journey. Our time together will be fundamentally collaborative; we start by defining your goals, then we work together to build a realistic, achievable path forward.
Whether you are a complete beginner or have some experience (maybe you are self-taught, or simply haven’t picked up your instrument since high school), I can help you stay motivated and navigate roadblocks. My ability to jump across genres, instruments, and concepts allows me to approach your musical hurdles with fresh perspectives—whether it’s understanding music theory, improving tone quality, or simply staying motivated.
I provide the seasoned perspective of a professional musician, but the execution of the journey belongs to you. My goal is for you to enjoy the process while seeing tangible progress on your musical journey.
