About
Hi! I’m Amy Huang, a Los Angeles-based vocalist, performer, and music educator with a B.A. in Music Business from Los Angeles College of Music (LACM).
My vocal background includes Chinese folk singing, pop, contemporary vocal performance, stage performance, and song interpretation. I have performed in competitions, cultural events, live productions, and music projects, and I also have experience in acting and directing. These experiences have taught me that good singing is not only about hitting the right notes—it is also about expression, confidence, communication, and telling a story through music.
Here are some awards and honor that I've earned:
The 7th China Young Musicians Competition - Silver Award - Nanning, Guangxi-2014
The Second International Art Festival of Zhejiang Conservatory of Music -Platinum Award- Hangzhou, Zhejiang-2020
Gold Award of Vocal Music at the Second Boao Art Festival - Wanning, Hainan-2021
The Second ASEAN Ethnic Song Singing Talent Show - Second Place - Nanning, Guangxi-2022
First place in Southern California and second place globally in the Water Cube Chinese Song Singing Competition
Teaching Style
My teaching style is supportive, encouraging, and performance-oriented. I create a relaxed environment where students can explore their voices without feeling pressured or judged.
I believe vocal training should be both technically grounded and personally expressive. I help students develop healthy vocal habits while also focusing on musicality, confidence, diction, emotion, and stage presence.
I adapt my teaching style to each student’s age, experience, vocal development, and goals. Whether you are a complete beginner, an experienced singer, or preparing for a performance or audition, I aim to make each lesson practical, engaging, and tailored to you.
Curriculum
My lessons combine vocal exercises, technique training, repertoire, and practical performance work.
Depending on the student’s goals, we may work on breathing, pitch accuracy, resonance, diction, vocal placement, range development, phrasing, dynamics, emotional expression, and song interpretation. I often use the student’s own favorite songs as teaching material so that technical exercises can be immediately connected to real musical situations.
For beginners, I typically introduce fundamental vocal concepts through simple exercises and accessible songs. For more experienced singers, lessons can focus on refining technique, developing a personal sound, interpreting repertoire, and preparing for auditions or performances.
Students are welcome to bring songs they would like to learn. I may also recommend repertoire based on their vocal range, interests, language, and current level. Depending on the student, materials may include sheet music, lyrics, vocal exercises, recordings, and other practice resources.
