About

Lessonface Teacher of the Year (Singing & Musical Theatre, 2025)

Award-Winning Online Voice Teacher Helping Singers Build Technique, Confidence, and Performance Skills

Louise Gast is a classically trained soprano, seasoned voice teacher, and passionate educator with over 20 years of performance experience and more than a decade of private voice instruction. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Emmanuel College and a Master’s in Special Education from Liberty University. Louise has performed leading roles in musical theatre, sung in numerous choral and concert settings, and was selected for a competitive musical theatre intensive at NYU. She is a recipient of the Joan Frey Boytim Award for Private Voice Teachers, a member of NATS, and completed a 50-hour voice pedagogy certification through New York Vocal Coaching.

Louise's students range from beginners discovering their voices to experienced performers preparing for auditions, professional productions, and collegiate programs. She creates a welcoming, encouraging environment where singers can take risks, grow their skills, and express themselves with confidence. Her lessons are tailored to each student’s goals, with a focus on healthy technique, stylistic versatility, and audition preparation.

Teaching Style

My teaching approach is tailored to the needs, goals, and personalities of each student.  I design vocal exercises to encourage vocal growth and focus on the styles and preferences of each student when working on vocal repertoire.  To learn more about my teaching and performance style, please visit my YouTube and Instagram channels.

Curriculum

I do not subscribe to particular method as I am able to sing and teach in a large variety of styles.  I do use elements of "Bel Canto Can Belto," focusing on switching between Western Classical singing styles and contemporary singing techniques.  I teach based on the goals of each student, but always prioritize range, register coordination, and flexibility.  I encourage students to study music theory and sight singing with me if that is something they are interested in pursuing.  For younger students, I use the "Full Voice" curriculum.

Credentials & Affiliations

I have a BA in vocal performance and an MAT in special education.  I have been working as a private voice teacher for nearly 20 years and have been teaching exclusively online since 2017.  I also have experience working as a choral conductor and working in public schools.  After a successful audition, I was invited to study at a 2 week intensive musical theatre program at NYU where I took classes on acting, singing, dancing, and auditioning.  I am an active member of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) and was a recent recipient of the Joan Frey Boytim Award for private voice teachers.  In January 2025, I completed a 50 hour voice teaching course through New York Vocal Coaching.  I’m honored to have been named Lessonface’s 2025 Teacher of the Year for Singing and Musical Theatre.
