About

I'm Prajat Arora, a guitarist, vocalist, composer, and music educator based in New Delhi, India. I've been teaching guitar professionally since 2013 and have worked with more than 1,000 students from around the world, of different ages, backgrounds, and musical interests. I've taught complete beginners picking up the guitar for the first time, hobbyists learning their favorite songs, students looking to accompany their singing, as well as students preparing for formal examinations and developing more advanced skills. My own musical training began during college and continued at the Delhi School of Music, where I further developed my guitar playing, music theory, and overall musicianship. Before pursuing music professionally, I trained as a dentist. Although it was a rewarding career, I eventually chose to dedicate myself entirely to music because teaching, performing, and creating music had become my true calling.

Alongside teaching, I'm an active performing and recording musician and the guitarist, vocalist, and composer of Lady Mondegreen, an experimental art-rock duo formed in 2015. Our music combines guitar, vocals, cello, keyboards, electronics, and programmed elements. We are currently completing our debut six-track release, Tracing Amnesia, with four tracks already released independently on Bandcamp and SoundCloud. We handle the production of our music independently, working through the process from composition and arrangement to recording, production, mixing, and mastering. We are also developing new material for our next release and exploring interdisciplinary live performances, including live scoring for films.

My experience as a performing and recording musician continues to inform the way I teach. Whether you're picking up the guitar for the first time, returning to it after years away, learning to sing and play your favorite songs, or looking to develop your playing more seriously, I shape lessons around each student's experience, interests, and goals. My aim is to help you make meaningful progress from wherever you are to wherever you want to go.

Teaching Style

I believe learning guitar should go beyond simply memorising chords and songs. My approach is to build a strong technical foundation while also helping students develop musical understanding, creativity, and confidence with the instrument.

Lessons are shaped around each student's experience, interests, and goals. For a complete beginner, that might mean starting with a favorite song or learning to accompany their singing, while gradually developing the technique and understanding needed to play more independently. For a more experienced player, lessons can focus on overcoming specific challenges, refining technique, expanding musical vocabulary, or exploring new creative directions.

I treat theory as a practical tool for understanding music, rather than something that has to be memorised for its own sake. I like to connect technical exercises and musical concepts to actual music, so students can understand not only how something works, but how they can use it creatively. I also encourage students to explore different musical styles and approaches rather than feeling restricted to a single genre.

My lessons are structured and purposeful, but flexible enough to evolve with the student. I encourage questions, experimentation, and active participation, and I want students to feel comfortable making mistakes as part of the learning process. Whether you're learning guitar as a hobby or pursuing more serious musical goals, my aim is to make the learning process engaging while helping you become a confident, expressive, and increasingly independent guitar player.

Curriculum

My teaching method combines structured skill development with practical, music-focused learning. I have developed a customized curriculum covering guitar technique, rhythm, music theory, ear training, song-based learning, improvisation, songwriting, and practical musicianship. My own lesson notes and exercises form an important part of this curriculum, alongside established guitar education resources.

Depending on the student's goals, I may also work with graded curricula such as Trinity Rock & Pop, Rockschool, and the Rockstar Guitar syllabus. For students preparing for formal examinations, lessons can be structured around the relevant syllabus while continuing to develop broader musical skills beyond the exam requirements.

For students who want to sing while playing, I also provide basic vocal guidance alongside guitar instruction. This can include simple pitch and vocal exercises, developing pitch awareness, coordinating the voice with guitar, maintaining rhythm while singing, and gradually building the confidence to sing while accompanying themselves.

I use customized exercises, lesson notes, repertoire, transcriptions, backing tracks, and other resources according to each student's needs, rather than requiring everyone to follow the same sequence of material.
