About
I teach students to understand why music feels the way it does, and how to make it sound the way they feel. I'm a Berklee-trained pianist with ten years of teaching experience and the author of a textbook on music theory and composition. As a pianist and keyboard player, I have performed at venues across the Eastern seaboard in a variety of styles including classical, jazz, and rock. I won first place for Best Original Film Score in the Montgomery County Film Festival in 2011.
Before earning my degree at Berklee, I studied with Jeffrey Chappell for eight years. I have taught over a hundred students and worked with organizations such as Music & Arts, the Let There Be Rock School, Dance New England, and others. In April of 2026, I was voted “Teacher of the Month” nationally across all Music & Arts stores.
Teaching Style
I fell in love with music at age seven when I discovered that different chords expressed different emotions. I learned that music is a place where magic and understanding meet, and that's the inspiration that I strive to share with my students today.
My teaching style is creative, curious, and passionate. I emphasize understanding theory and performance principles deeply rather than going through practice sessions mechanically. I aim to provide a supportive and encouraging atmosphere where students can go at their own pace and pursue whatever interests them the most. My lessons combine core concepts and skills with a deeply personalized approach. For beginners who prefer a more structured approach, I will sometimes guide students through method books to help get them started. Other students prefer to pick out pieces to learn or work on writing their own pieces. In our first lesson, we can discuss how to tailor lessons uniquely to your experience level, interests, and goals.
Learning music is a wonderful vehicle for learning about life, skill mastery, and creativity. Through music lessons, I help students understand what they play, find their own voice, and deepen their love of music.
I teach students age 8 through adult, from beginners to advanced players.
