Sebastian Pereira
About
I am a singer-songwriter, guitarist, performing artist, music producer, vocal producer, voice-over artist, and creative professional whose career has developed both on stage and in the studio. My work spans live performance, songwriting, guitar, vocal interpretation, recording, arrangement, music production, mixing, mastering, and the complete creative process of developing a song from the first idea to the finished production. As both a performer and producer, I understand music from the artist’s perspective as well as from the creative and technical side of the studio.
Alongside my music career, I have more than 30 years of experience teaching Spanish and English in Colombia and the United States. I began teaching in 1993 and received professional training in English as a Second Language at Instituto Meyer in Colombia. Throughout my career, I have worked with children, teenagers, university students, professionals, and adults at different proficiency levels. I served as an instructor and academic director at Listening AP, led English and Spanish as a Second Language programs at the School of Arms and Services in Bogotá, and founded and directed New Country English Institute in Colombia.
My background in music, voice, production, and language education allows me to teach across several areas with a perspective that connects creativity, technique, communication, and critical listening. I teach guitar, acoustic guitar, guitar for singers, voice and vocal performance, voice-over, recording, music production, mixing, mastering, Spanish, English, and ESL. Whether a student is developing as a musician, performer, producer, voice professional, or language learner, I bring decades of professional and teaching experience to help them build strong skills with clarity, purpose, and independence.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is structured, practical, creative, and highly personalized. I want students to understand not only what to do, but why it works and how to apply it independently. I build lessons progressively, identify weaknesses early, explain concepts clearly, and use practical examples, guided practice, specific feedback, and real application so students can develop confidence, judgment, and independence.
In music, I teach from the perspective of an active performing artist, singer-songwriter, guitarist, music producer, vocal producer, voice-over artist, and audio professional. Depending on the student’s goals, lessons may focus on guitar, acoustic guitar, guitar for singers, voice, vocal performance, songwriting, stage interpretation, recording, music production, vocal production, mixing, mastering, or voice-over. I connect technique with artistic intention and help students understand phrasing, tone, dynamics, interpretation, arrangement, sound, balance, frequency, space, critical listening, and the creative decisions behind a strong performance or production. My goal is not for students to copy my choices, but to develop the ability to listen, analyze, create, and make confident artistic and technical decisions on their own.
In Spanish and English, I combine grammar, conversation, pronunciation, listening comprehension, reading, writing, and vocabulary according to each student’s level and goals. I place strong emphasis on understanding how the language works rather than memorizing disconnected rules. Students move from explanation and guided practice to new situations where they must apply what they have learned independently. I adapt my approach for children, teenagers, adults, professionals, and students who need focused support in specific areas.
Whether I am teaching music, audio, voice, performance, Spanish, or English, I follow the same principle: strong foundations, clear explanations, practical application, thoughtful feedback, and measurable progress.
Curriculum
I use a progressive, level-based teaching method in which new concepts build on skills the student has already developed. Lessons are structured around clear objectives and usually move through explanation or demonstration, guided practice, correction and feedback, practical application, and independent use of the new skill. I pay close attention to recurring weaknesses and adjust the lesson plan so students can strengthen those areas before moving forward.
For music, voice, and audio students, the method is highly practical and project-based. Depending on the subject, we may work with guitar exercises, songs, vocal interpretation, songwriting, recording sessions, production projects, mixing exercises, mastering analysis, voice-over practice, or the student’s own material. I use critical listening and real musical examples to help students understand tone, phrasing, dynamics, arrangement, frequency balance, space, depth, performance choices, and the relationship between technical decisions and artistic intention.
For Spanish and English students, I combine structured grammar instruction with conversation, pronunciation, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, and practical communication. New structures are introduced in context, practiced with guidance, and then applied in new sentences and situations so the student demonstrates real understanding rather than simply repeating examples. I adapt materials and exercises to the student’s level, goals, pace, age, and specific areas of difficulty.
I do not rely exclusively on one textbook or fixed curriculum. I create and adapt materials according to the needs of each student and may use exercises, readings, audio, songs, recordings, production sessions, real-life scenarios, and the student’s own projects. The objective is always to connect knowledge with practical use and help the student become increasingly independent.
