Shauna Heisler

Hi! I’m Shauna, a music educator, flutist, and founder of Little Bird Music Company with more than 10 years of teaching experience. I hold bachelor’s degrees in both Music Education and Flute Performance from the University of North Texas.

I’ve had the joy of teaching students across a wide range of ages and settings, from little ones taking their very first music lessons to school-age musicians, private students, and adults returning to music after many years away. Before founding Little Bird Music Company, I spent several years as an elementary music educator, teaching hundreds of students from Pre-K through fifth grade.

Flute is my primary instrument, and I teach beginning and developing flutists of all ages. I especially love working with young beginners, students who want extra support with school music, and adults who have always wanted to learn or are ready to pick the flute back up again.

I also work with more advanced students preparing for auditions and competitions, including TMEA All-State, ATSSB All-State, region auditions, and UIL Solo & Ensemble. I’m very familiar with the Texas audition and UIL systems and enjoy helping students feel prepared, confident, and organized throughout the process.

I also offer beginner ukulele lessons for children, teens, and adults.

My goal is for lessons to feel welcoming, encouraging, and low-pressure while still helping students build strong musical skills. You do not have to come to lessons already feeling confident or “musical.” We’ll start where you are, work toward your goals, and make sure there is plenty of room to enjoy the process along the way.

My teaching style is warm, encouraging, flexible, and student-centered. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, trying new things, making mistakes, and being themselves in lessons.

With younger students, I often use games, movement, imagination, listening activities, and creative choices to keep learning active and engaging. My background in elementary and early childhood music helps me adapt lessons to different learning styles, personalities, and attention spans while still building meaningful musical skills.

With teens and adults, I shape lessons around each student’s individual goals. That might mean strengthening technique, getting extra support with school music, preparing for an audition, learning favorite repertoire, building confidence, or simply enjoying music as a creative outlet.

For students preparing for competitive auditions or Solo & Ensemble, I like to break the process into manageable goals so preparation feels focused rather than overwhelming. We can work on tone, technique, rhythm, phrasing, difficult passages, practice strategies, sight-reading, performance confidence, and mock audition preparation.

I especially love teaching adult beginners and returning musicians. It is never too late to start! Whether you played years ago and want to pick your instrument back up or you’ve always wanted to learn but never had the chance, lessons can move at a pace that feels comfortable and enjoyable. You do not need to be preparing for an audition or performance for music lessons to be worthwhile.
