Stephie Koulouris
About
I am a classically-trained music educator and professional concert pianist with an academic career that spans 3 decades and has yielded a wealth of experience in teaching, tutoring and performing. I received my Artist's Diploma in Piano Performance and Music Pedagogy from the National Conservatory in Athens, Greece where I was awarded 1st prize for outstanding performance and I completed post-Diploma studies in Duo-Piano repertoire with renowned artists Vinia Tsopelas, Eleni Traganas and Maciej Lukaszczyk.
My performace work includes live presentations with the 6-member International Chamber Music Group, Amberlink Ensemble. My teaching work includes preparation of students for ABRSM grades, ARSM, LRSM, AMusTCL, LMusTCL Diplomas, National Examinations and Exit Criteria with all graduates awarded soloist license and teaching certificates. My work also includes successful implementation of the IBMYP curriculum, the IB Diploma Program and the US curriculum.
Teaching Style
What I bring to class:
I bring patience, empathy and a sense of joy in sharing music to the classroom. Julliard mentors taught me that the greatest teacher of all is inspiration, so this is the method I bring to my teaching and share with students. I also love to work with active listening because I believe that cultivating the 'ear' and the 'listening' increases a student' s understanding of their own musicality and creative expression. It brings awareness to their true potential and this, in turn, makes the student want to spend more and more time at their instrument
Curriculum
I encourage students to work towards a recorded testament of their efforts on a yearly basis and, if they are interested, I offer structured guidance for:
ABRSM and Ministry practical piano grades & performance
National Curriculum & AP placement
ABRSM piano diploma exams
AMusTCL/LMusTCL theory diplomas
IBDP music tutoring
Preparation for recitals, competitions
