William Kang

Hi! I’m William, a clarinetist and teacher based in the New York/New Jersey area. I have been studying clarinet for 10 years and currently attend the Manhattan School of Music Precollege, where I serve as principal clarinet of the Philharmonic Orchestra. I also perform with the Grammy Award Winning New York Youth Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Music Program, gaining extensive experience in both orchestral and chamber music performance.

As a soloist, I have received first-place awards in several national and international music competitions and have performed multiple times at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. I was also the winner of my school’s Concerto Competition, performing the first movement of Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 1 as a soloist with orchestra. Most recently, I was selected through the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Young Musicians Program to perform at Alice Tully Hall. My musical training has also included intensive summer study at the New England Conservatory, Interlochen, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and Brevard Music Center.

Alongside performing, teaching has become an important part of my musical life. Through the Do Re Mi Project, I have mentored younger clarinetists in weekly private lessons, working with students on fundamentals, band music, Regional auditions, and developing effective practice habits.

I specialize in teaching beginner and intermediate clarinetists. Lessons are tailored to each student's needs and can cover tone production, technique, articulation, scales, sight-reading, school and solo repertoire, audition preparation, and practice strategies. Whether a student is just beginning the clarinet or preparing for an audition or performance, my goal is to provide an encouraging environment where they can improve their playing and build confidence.
