About

------- I'll be accepting new students only from 21st September on, but you may still message me before that. -------

I'm a flutist and saxophonist, with professional experience in classical and jazz music.  A graduated in classical flute and jazz saxophone, I studied in Portugal (ESMAE) and Belgium (Antwerp Conservatorium). With a master degree in musical education, I taught kids and adults for about 12 years.  Along with a career in performance, I composed original music exploring a mix of the jazz and classical genres. At the moment, I'm finishing a PhD about the effects of music listening in our perception of time. Working on music-related research has given me extra knowledge on music psychology and how music can help shape our emotions and perception of the world.

Teaching Style

I've been working as a music teacher for the past 10 years, both in public artistic schools and in private lessons.

Every student is unique so I focus on following each student´s needs, personal goals and preferences. I'm used to students of all ages and backgrounds and I'm happy to learn with every new student.

For me being a musician means beings able to listen, read scores, improvise, transpose, create. So I like to include some ear training and creative exercises besides the traditional approach of reading and working on songs.

When I teach young kids I like the parents to be engaged and watch the lessons whenever they can. The parents will help me understand the child's needs and personality and also give me their own expectations on their musical education. The parents are also very important in the weekly practice at home!

Many of my students have pursued their musical careers in local wind or jazz  bands and some have moved to professional music schools. Some go to college in other areas and then return as young adults wanting to play again and live the joy of music in a whole new perspective.

Here at lessonface I've found both the young beginner and the adult who once played and want to get their music going on again.

I'm happy to help them both!

Excellent! just what I need to get started. Appreciated the individual coaching. Thanks!

Curriculum

I like to tailor my materials to each student, as every individual will have their own musical preferences and goals. Along the years, I've helped students who wanted to undertake exams like the ABRSM, or enter a local windband, others wanted to play in their local communities and focus on specific musical pieces, others wanted to freely improvise in a given genre. I'm happy to learn your favourite song and help you learn to play it, or help you improvise and compose your own songs, or guide you through classical methods and pieces in the flute repertoire.
