Guitarist, composer and arranger from Buenos Aires, Argentina, currently based in NYC. Jacinta's debut album El Pájaro Azul was released at the Consulate of Argentina in NYC, and is being distributed in Japan under the record label Inpartmaint Inc. She is currently composing and arranging the music for a Spanish language folkloric musical based on Ruben Darío's works, El Poeta Y El Rey (BRIC, New York Theatre Workshop) and writing the arrangements and orchestrations for I Am, a new play with music. Jacinta has participated in projects as an arranger for Grammy award winning artist such as A.R. Rahman and Alejandro Sanz, she was the resident composer for NORA (Jerome Foundation, Lanesboro Arts, MN) and the Assistant Music Director for the The Boy Who Danced On Air (Abingdon Theatre Company). Jacinta was granted the Latin American Scholarship and holds a B.A. in Contemporary Writing and Production at Berklee College of Music (BFA, Summa Cum Laude); she is a Teaching Artist at the New York Philharmonic and a participating member at the Carnegie Hall Music Educators Workshop

Detailed BIO:

Jacinta started studying guitar at age eleven and attended the conservatory Juan José Castro and the Buenos Aires Music School. On 2011, she was granted the Latin American Scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston MA, where she pursued a major on Contemporary Writing and Production and Guitar Performance (BFA, Summa Cum Laude). During her years in Boston, Jacinta Clusellas performed as a bandleader and as a guitarist in concerts and festivals around the city such as the Outside the Box Festival, The GreenFest, the Boston Book Festival, Women of the World: “Koloro” and Regatta Bar United Nations Concert, The Latin VIVE Festival, The Berklee Contemporary Indian concerts and more. Clusellas was commissioned for the Visiting Artist Series at Berklee College of music, to present “The Modern Sounds of Argentina's Folklore”. During 2013 and 2014, she was commissioned an arranger for the multi Grammy Award winning Indian artist A.R. Rahman, at the Boston Symphony Hall concert; and for the multi Latin Grammy award winning Spanish artist Alejandro Sanz concert at the Berklee Performance Center; collaborating with Matthew Nicholl, Oscar Stagnaro and Javier Limón. Jacinta received the John LaPorta Award and the Guitar Department Achievement Award, from the Performance Division at Berklee College of music for “outstanding musicianship”.

In early 2015, Jacinta Clusellas toured across Argentina and Chile performing in venues such as Bebop Club, Meson Nerudiano and Benevento Jazz Café; and moved to New York City where she released her debut album El Pájaro Azul, produced in collaboration with Latin Grammy Nominee produced Marian Gomez Villota. The album was presented at the Consulate General of Argentina featuring a 16-piece ensemble, and it received the Latin Jazz category award from the Akademia Music Awards. In early 2016, Clusellas signed a distribution and licensing deal with Japanese record label Inpartmaint Inc. The Japanese Edition of El Pájaro Azul (featuring bonus tracks) was released in Japan on May 2016 and music lovers from around the world expressed their appreciation and excitement for this new music.

Jacinta has been actively performing in countless venues in New York City such as Rockwood Music Hall, Something Jazz Club, Whynot Jazz Club, Shapeshifter Lab, Pianos, Meridian 23, Subrosa and more; including theater productions such as 1989 and Café Le Mond, produced at the Shapiro Theatre from Columbia University and at the Connelly Theatre. Clusellas’ international performances on 2016 included live concerts at the Athenaeum Kelaria (Athens, Greece), Delfini (Patmos, Greece), Lidolo (Sicily, Italy), Café Vinilo (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Centro Cultural Haroldo Conti (Buenos Aires, Argentina) where she performed opening for the acclaimed Argentine group Aca Seca Trío.

As an educator, Jacinta Clusellas is a Teaching Artist both for the Very Young Composers program at the New York Philharmonic; and the Music Educators Workshop at the Carnegie Hall. Jacinta is currently in residence at The Habitat Theatre, as a composer and music director for a new musical based on Ruben Darío's short stories, which is being developed in collaboration with theater director Tatiana Pandiani, as part of the 2017 Drama League Artist Residency, New York Theatre Workshop and BRIC. Jacinta is also writing the arrangements and orchestrations for I Am a new play with music by Lauren Stamm and Ben Gouldthorpe, and has worked as an Assistant Music Director for the The Boy Who Danced On Air, a new musical which was produced at the Abingdon Theatre Company.

Teaching Style

Jacinta's teaching is personalized to each student's needs and levels. While learning the skills needed for the instrument, Jacinta enjoys teaching music as a whole, including music theory, ear training, songwriting and composition, as well as Berklee College of Music audition preparation. All levels are welcome!
