About
As the founder of Mice Parade, and drummer in Swirlies, HiM, and many other quite successful bands, I've appeared on dozens of critically acclaimed albums (often playing every instrument and writing every song, or also as producer), and toured the world 40 times over. I've been featured on the front page of the NY Times Arts section, as well as in the Washington Post, Drum Magazine, Wire, Mojo, and performed live radio sessions the BBC, KCRW, KEXP, WBEZ, WNYU, WFMU, etc... the list is long.
I've also spent more than a decade teaching drums for all levels, as well as beginner-intermediate piano, both privately and through a music school in NY. I truly enjoy teaching. Seeing a student succeed is one of the most rewarding experiences I can think of.
I also co-manage a well-known record label - FatCat Records - which has enabled me to help start the careers of some great artists, like Sigur Ros, Animal Collective, Frightened Rabbit... again, it's a long list.
Teaching Style
Music should be fun. Sure, it takes practice, but it also takes improvisation and adventure. It's important to have a good teacher. Music fosters both community and instrospection. My goal is to provide the solid foundation required to then explore the infinte world of music - all styles included, along with improv, sight reading, and technique. People have told me that I'm a natural teacher, and while lessons over the internet might not be quite the same as in person, I'm confident that we'll succeed, and have fun in the process!
