Rishi Puri
About
Hello there!
I'm Rishi Puri, a high school student that loves music. I picked up the cello around 5 years ago, after playing 7 years of guitar. I play in a couple orchestras, such as the SJYS Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Cambrian Symphony. I have had the chance to perform concertos with pianists, and am working towards performing as a soloist with many different orchestras. My passion for music has led me to want to share this with others, which is why I want to teach cello to beginner and intermediate cellists.
Teaching Style
Personally, my private tutor for cello did not use the Suzuki Method as he preferred giving me different pieces to play, and teaching me technique and musicality from said pieces. I am open to teach with any methods that work for students, including the Suzuki Method, or the method my teacher gave me. I am happy to do whatever is comfortable for the student.
Curriculum
Suzuki Method- includes playing through the Suzuki books, and minor playing quizzes after completing a book. These quizzes can assess how well the student has progressed, and indicate what the student needs to work on.
My personal method: Worksheets and sample music that I have created myself (see attachments for examples). Pieces are given based on the current level of the student. For beginners most of the time will be spent learning how to read music, and how to play with good tone quality. Technicality of the cello falls in this category. Once the student progresses to an intermediate level I will assign some pieces for them to play that suit their skill level. Examples of intermediate pieces include: Bach Cello Suite No. 1; Vivaldi Cello Concerti; Goltermann Cello Concerti; just to name a few. Students may also request pieces of interest that they would like to play. I can also help students with their orchestral parts, if they do take part in an orchestra.
