Benedict Taylor

Benedict Taylor is a solo violist, violinist, composer and teacher. He is a leading figure within the area of contemporary string performance, at the forefront of the British & European classical and new music world. 



He performs, records & composes internationally, featuring in many venues and festivals including: Cafe Oto, Jazz en Nord France, Royal Court Theatre, The Vortex, Ronnie Scott's, BBC Arts Online, BBC Radio 3 & 2, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, London Contemporary Music Festival, Aldeburgh Festival, Cantiere D'Arte di Montepulciano, Edinburgh Fringe, CRAM Festival, The Barbican, Royal Albert Hall, Southbank Centre, ICA London, Radio Libertaire Paris, Resonance FM London. 

He has extensive experience as a teacher, spanning 14 years in the UK music industry since graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He has taught and lectured at the Royal College of Music, City University of London, Goldsmiths College, York University, Royal Holloway College London, Royal College of Music Junior School, Royal Northern College of Music Junior School, Live Music Now UK, Mehli Mehta Music Foundation Mumbai, Lambeth Music Service London. 



He is the founder, and a curator of CRAM, a music collective and independent record label.

Teaching style is closely based on principles of classical string playing, classical theory, harmony, composition and history. A careful study of technique in a relaxed setting is essential in order to progress further and develop a musicians creativity. Teaching and pedagogy is about dialogue and communication between student and tutor, alongside careful study and development of technique and style. Teaching situations range from working with beginners through to conservatory students, adult amateurs and professionals. Some students wish to focus intensively on developing string technique or theory knowledge, while others are looking for consultation from a music specialist in areas different from their own. All ages are welcome.
