About
Since arriving in New York in 2009, Jatziri (pronounced Hat-City) Gallegos has become an international ambassador of cultural understanding through music. Premiering new compositions and cultivating spontaneous moments on the bandstand, the singer, composer and educator renews her commitment to promoting sensitivity through artistic expression. Resonating tone along with refined phrasing and harmonic instincts have allowed her to play alongside enduring figures, from Ray Santos to John Benitez, and appear at venues throughout New York and Mexico, including, among others, Tutuma Social Club, Somethin’ Jazz Club, ShapeShifter Lab, The National Auditorium of Mexico City, La Nueva Babel and The Jazz Place. Gallegos holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The City College of New York and a Master of Music from The Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. A minister of arts, she works to empower immigrant communities in New York City through advocacy and mentoring, and looks forward to engaging and collaborating with the next generation of musicians in New York, Mexico and everywhere she believes music might strengthen the soul of community.

My years of experience as educator and performer has allowed me to develop an ability to focus on each student´s needs in different levels of expertise.
My classes are focused on a practical use of the material along with a deep understanding of the theory involved in it; I also send reading and listening material to the student to strengthen their understanding. I believe reading and audiovisual material provides a complement to any music lesson and motivates the student to know about the contexts of each lesson learned.
