About
My name is Aliyyah. I am a college senior majoring in piano performance. I have performed in many piano competitions, performed with jazz bands, performed in many music recitals, and have played as a professional piano accompanist in churches. I have completed all four levels of college music theory and sight-singing.
Teaching Style
My approach to music teaching is not rigid or limited to one method. It is flexible and geared towards helping students cultivate their inner voice and towards discovering the approach to music development that best suits them/reflects their style of learning. Some students learn to play an instrument before they learn to read music. Some students need a more experiential approach to sight singing and music theory. The standard academic (structured) approach to music learning may limit some students’ understanding and creative abilities.
I assess what is helping students reach their goals as a musician and what is limiting them. I encourage students to incorporate learning other instruments and exploring different styles of music as apart of their daily practice.
