Kysanne Lewis
About
I’m Kysanne, a Mathematics tutor with 16+ years of teaching experience and a Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Mathematics and Accounting.
Since beginning my tutoring career in 2010, I have worked with students across different ages, abilities, and educational systems, including students from the Caribbean, the US, and the UK. I have also owned and operated a successful maths tuition business, where much of my student base grew through word-of-mouth referrals.
My goal is simple: to help students understand maths, build confidence, and become independent learners.
I believe that students often struggle with mathematics not because they "can't do maths," but because there are gaps in their understanding of the fundamentals. That's why I take a foundation-first approach, identifying areas that need strengthening before moving on to more advanced concepts.
During our lessons, I don't simply give students the answers. I guide them through the thinking process, asking questions and helping them develop the problem-solving and critical-thinking skills they need to tackle unfamiliar problems independently.
Whether your child needs help catching up, strengthening their mathematical foundation, preparing for exams, or simply becoming more confident in maths, I aim to make each lesson clear, engaging, and supportive.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is personalized, encouraging, and focused more on understanding than memorization.
I tailor each lesson to the student's level, learning needs, personality, and goals, incorporating clear explanations, guided practice, visual examples, and interactive resources where appropriate.
A typical lesson may involve:
- Identifying and addressing gaps in understanding
- Breaking difficult concepts into manageable steps
- Working through examples together
- Guided practice, with increasing independence
- Problem-solving and critical-thinking activities
- Reviewing previous concepts to strengthen retention
My aim is for students to leave each lesson not only knowing how to solve a particular problem, but understanding why the method works and feeling more confident about tackling the next one independently.
