Amariah Larson
About
I have been playing the harp for seventeen years and teaching it to all ages for the last six! A veteran of both professional and community orchestras, I have coached harpists in youth orchestras and played for chamber music camps at Minot State University and the Young Artist's Harp Seminar. In addition, I founded and directed the Golden Harps ensemble in my local area for five years. I have also had opportunities to play in masterclasses for Yolanda Kondonassis, Bridget Kibby, Marguerite Lynn Williams, and the Duo Scorpio ensemble. I love both performing and teaching the harp, and have been grateful for the places it has taken me!
Teaching Style
I am an energetic, smiley, and upbeat teacher. I try to help my students see a positive perspective and find joy in the music they are playing. Keeping things creative is important to me, and I take a unique approach to each student I teach depending on their needs and personality. Every lesson with me is different: it's always fun to shake up the routine! My specialty has been classical and folk harp, with a sprinkling of other genres like Irish, pop, and sacred. Students have found me very helpful in improving their fingering, musicality, and performance confidence. I help harpists develop a solid technical foundation so they can feel brave enough to step out and express themselves musically!
Curriculum
I tailor my approach to individual students and do not have a set method of study. In our first few lessons together, I help students pick good books for their learning based on their interests and abilities.
