Vera Vieira
About
Pianist and singer of the Baroque specializing in Musicological studies of the era and the Renaissance.
Cellist (degree) having played Baroque cello. Currently not teaching cello, though would coach a cellist or cello student who needs further work, Early Music technique and/or interpretation and/or help with the Alexander Technique.
Extensive violin and viola experience on first college, and as multi-instrument teacher in Boston, Brazil and online (US-India). Available for coaching on the Baroque technique and interpretation or beginners to intermediates.
Have coached chamber groups, done orchestra prep and choir vocal prep in US home studios and at Brazilian music schools.
Composer of mixed (Early/modern) styles from solo instrument and voice thru symphonic orchestra.
Have composed non classical, mostly folkish, Rhythm 'n Blues, and later a free style instrumental for 12 years prior to college.
Fell in love with classical music and started learning instruments before returning to composition and finally Early Music studies.
Teaching Style
May teach numbered harmony and thorough-bass realization from the first lesson on keyboard instruments (me on Piano, or an electric keyboard, if needed).
This approach opens up to a different relationship with music, not jeopardizing later styles.
Focus on Bach and Early styles with refinement of technique (in whatever instrument you're learning or Voice).
I do teach Classical/Romantic/Modern styles to musicians with no Early Music interest, with a focus on technical refinement, interpretation and learning about the periods.
-- Besides the above I can teach:
Sight-reading on Keyboard
Sight-singing for singers or instrumentalists (you need to already read music)
Beginners Theory or Figured Bass realization
Chords (modern)
Curriculum
Piano -
Beginners I teach reading on keyboard from the first lesson, combining all elements of the score including style and interpretation. And it's easy.
Figured-bass -
I'll be using Keaney, Remes (CPEBach), Handel and further materials.
Voice -
I use my own original vocalizes which help students develop their range quite fast. Soon they'll know their range potential.
Focus on Early Music and on non-classical styles. Will help other classical singers in different manners, though.
I do give focus to stylistic interpretation, even making the piano sound more like a harpsichord when playing Early music.
On an electric keyboard, like an organ.
In the same way I can also help string instrumentalists.
