Gabi Rose
About
Gabi Rose is a full-time saxophonist, singer, songwriter, and entertainment in New York City. She is offering private online lessons to students interested in expanding the scope of their creativity and musicality, and to parents wishing to occupy and teach their children while they are home-schooled during the COVID-19 Pandemic. With years of experience, she provides students the foundation they need to succeed and the skills to explore music on a deeper level.
Gabi graduated with a B.A. in Music Industry and B.S. in Business Economics with a concentration in Jazz Studies from SUNY Oneonta and has been playing professionally ever since, both locally and internationally. She teaches students how to read music, learn by ear, and play a range of genres they may be interested in- from classical to jazz and pop music. She also help students in preparation for NYSSMA.
"As a full-time NYC musician, the gigs that I've been relying on and looking forward to the next few months have all been canceled. This is an extremely rough time, I want to be able to support and share music through any means possible. Private lessons provide students the attention they need to succeed and have fun learning the saxophone. I truly believe that the motivation comes from within and I am dedicated to inspiring students through music and bringing knowledge and laughs through this situation we're all in :)"
Teaching Style
My teaching style is similar to my playing - fun with intention! I believe in giving my students the type of instruction I wish I had when I was learning, which is learning based on exploring the true interests of the student. Everybody is different- some of my students really take to classical, some to jazz, others to pop and all different styles. It is my mission to get to know my students and explore that light inside each and every one of them so that we can bring out the best in them. Music lessons should not be a chore, they should be fun. And when they are fun, students WANT to practice, and everybody wins.
Curriculum
First, I get to know the student, including their musical styles of interest, past experiences playing and learning, and what they hope to achieve. If there's a piece of music or concept they've been working on, I find and create materials to supplement that and help them progress. If they're not sure exactly what they want to, I create a curriculum I believe is best suited for them and a regular practice routine. This routine includes tone development, technique, vocabulary, and repertoire.
