Patrícia Pires holds a Bachelor degree in Music Performance and a Master degree in Music education. Currently she is finishing her Master in Performance at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel. In Belgium she is also academist at the Belgium National Orchestra and at the Opera La Monnaie. In her country, Portugal, Patrícia is a member of the Guimarães' Orchestra since 2014.
Regarding youth orchestras, Patricia played in the Portuguese Youth Orchestra (2014/2015) and in the Flanders Youth Orchestra (2018) both as Principal flute. With them she had the opportunity to play in great Concert Halls, such as the Konzerthaus (Berlin - Germany), the Kongress Palais Stadthalle (Kassel - Germany), at Flagey (Brussels - Belgium), the Concertgebouw Brugge (Brugge - Belgium) and the Centro Cultural de Belém (Lisbon - Portugal).
In her Master in Education she had the opportunity to do an internship in Braga, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory, where she tought students from 8-18, and wrote a thesis about the role of cooperative learning in the discipline of chamber music - contribution to the definition of pedagogical strategies. Patrícia gave also masterclasses in Esmoriz, Carvalheira and Barcelos (Portugal)
Regarding competitions, Patrícia won the first prizes in the Prémio Honorífico “David Russel”in Vigo, Spain, (Flute solo and Flute duo categories), in the Chamber Music Competition in Vila Verde, Portugal, in the “4º International Wind Competition Alto Minho”, Ponte de Lima, Portugal, and in the IMKA Music Competition. She won also the 3rd prize in the “X Concurso Paços Premium”, in Paços de Brandão, Portugal.
Teaching Style
Each student is different, and I don't have only one method for all of them. Some may experience more difficulties in certain aspects that others may not, and viceversa. I try to listen and to understand which difficulties the student has. For me it's really important to work on a good and relaxed posture as well.
Flute and piccolo lessons (all ages and goals) and also piccolo initiation lessons for flutists - in portuguese and english.
Anyone that studies with me, will not only get individually lessons, but individual exercises (as needed), and quick responses through email at anytime between lessons with questions or concerns.
