I started playing violin in 1987 and began my teaching career in 1998.  I have taught literally HUNDREDS of students ranging from total beginner (2 years old to almost 80 years old) to seasoned adult violin teachers (yes, I have actually had other professional violin instructors come to me for additional "fine-tuning" lessons).  Not only are all ages & levels welcome, but all styles/genres as well, from classical including Suzuki & traditional methods, to improvisation, to hip-hop & RnB, to rock, to fiddle, to Irish/Celtic, to jazz, to worship & praise, and on & on!

But if you really want to know about a teacher, take a look at the teacher's students.  It's one thing for a person to be able to do things themselves, but a whole other story for that person to replicate the process.  Performing violin and TEACHING it are two very different things.  That said, check out my YouTube channel (go to www.YouTube.com and type "user ViolinConnection" in the search bar, and you should see me at the top of YouTube search results in a CIRCULAR picture for my "user ViolinConnection" channel; you may also go there directly by visiting https://www.youtube.com/user/ViolinConnection) and you'll be able to go through literally HUNDREDS of videos of my students playing in recitals over the years (and these videos don't even cover all the students and recitals...if I did that, it would be THOUSANDS instead of "only" hundreds of student videos!).   And if you see a guy rambling on in the videos as the host of the violin recitals *facepalm*, yes, that's me LOL.

Also, check out the videos here on my www.lessonface.com teacher profile where you can sample me in action, "jamming" with fellow musicians (improvising on my violin in multiple styles, with no sheet music, just "making it up" as I go), and also playing as the featured solo guest (classical violin) artist with a professional symphony.  I have a lot of other samples (audio &/or video), too many to put on this one little violin instructor profile, so let me know if you'd like to see those, too!

One final note, super discount virtual lessons (video exchange) for other instruments are also offered (piano lessons, guitar lessons, voice & singing lessons, flute lessons, ukulele lessons, banjo lessons, harmonica lessons, saxophone lessons, trumpet lessons, clarinet lessons, mandolin lessons, viola lessons, cello lessons, bass lessons, french horn lessons, drum lessons & percussion, etc.).  While these other options are not "live," they are MUCH less expensive than live online lessons but still allow you to contact the teacher directly for actual feedback through multiple video exchanges, and even provide you with access to video exchanges between other students & their teachers (this is VERY helpful & is in essence a "Master Class" community).   So let me know if you want to know more about any of that.  =)

Teaching Style

I don't like to count up all the years and DECADES I've been at this because I don't want to be reminded of my age.... the way I see it, 60 is the new 30 (at least starting at the age of 30) so you just take your age, divide by 2, and there's your actual age hahahah!!

While I'm professional in the sense of getting down to business for REAL RESULTS (many of my students often tell me our lessons can feel like a workout!), as you can see from reading this, I'm a fun-loving and down-to-earth kinda guy!  =)   Lessons are always catered to YOU, your needs & your desires.  I will often ask a student what kind of music they like (movies, video games, pop culture, praise & worship, etc.) and then have the students work on what they like, but in a strategic manner to get them to learn fundamental and necessary techniques.  I do my best to maximize fun and education simultaneously.  (Every once in a while I'll get a student who has fun by NOT having fun and just doing things in a robotic "just tell me what to do" manner...I can accommodate that, too!)

I currently have almost one hundred private violin lesson students of all ages, levels, & styles, which I've been blessed by The Almighty to have maintained for the past several years.  However, I'm looking to expand and connect with people outside of my geographical Northern California area.  The world, as small as it is, is still much bigger than simply where I live.  I love meeting new people and look forward to meeting you, starting a new friendship, and helping you along in your musical & life journey!

Curriculum

Beginners - Suzuki Violin Book 1 with CD, and "I Can Read Music" for violin (by JoAnne Martin)

Intermediate to Advanced - to be decided upon initial session

Credentials & Affiliations

Multnomah University (Portland, OR); University of The Pacific Conservatory of Music (Stockton, CA); FULLY LICENSED to provide music lessons ("The Violin Connection" may be confirmed & validated directly with City Hall in Stockton, CA... this is very important, because many private teachers actually don't have authenticated city/state licensing, and so, even with bachelors or masters or Ph.D.'s, they still are, perhaps unknowingly, teaching ILLEGALLY)
