About

I have been a professional singer/actress and voice/acting teacher for over 30 years.    I have performed in musicals, dramas,  and cabarets that I have created in New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Florida, Maine and Ohio.   Favorite theaters include 13th Street Theater,  Cleveland Opera, and Great Lakes Theater.   I also sing in a duo called "The Vinyls", performing pop songs from 1940 through 2020.  As a teacher, I have worked with students from 8 through 80, in theaters, schools,  camps, and my home studio.  As a teacher with the Ohio Arts Council Artists in Residence program for seven years, , I taught in numerous schools throughout Ohio, including Hilliard; Dover; Summit; Bassett; Ladyfield; Holly Lane, Franklin Township and Wooster.

Teaching Style

I am a very supportive teacher, with a personal and professional understanding of the joys and difficulties connected with singing and acting.  I give very specific tools to my students, which address both  the physical and emotional factors involved in singing.   I focus on what students are doing correctly and build on that, rather than focusing on the negatives.  Additionally, I help students build the acting skills needed to best deliver a song.  I also help students build skills in acting for auditions and preparing a role, by helping them utilize a number of approaches and finding the approach that fits them best.

Curriculum

I help students develop skills and find the joy in singing by building one  technique, and once learned, building the next piece onto that.  I make sure that the tools are simple, clear and specific.  I also ensure that I give students specific tools to take the techniques learned through exercises and apply them specifically to their songs.  I give students tools in relaxation, to best prepare their bodies to make healthy sounds; then work with breath production and control; next working on making sounds through the mask, focusing on the  making of an "MMM" sound; and then applying that sound, opening to vowels, singing scales, intervals, and finally the song.  I then work with the acting of the song, making personal, specific connections with the intention and words.

I also specialize in helping students build acting skills to develop audition pieces, prepare for cold readings and build a complete character.  I help students utilize a number approaches, including  those from taken from Stanislavski, and Michael Chekhov
