Josh Pearson
About
My name is Josh -- I am a rising junior in college, and am interested in veterinary medicine. Aside from fiddling, I enjoy going for runs with my dog and spending time in nature!
Teaching Style
I've played the violin all my life, I started with Suzuki at age 4, and played in school orchestra through 6th grade. In 4th grade I began fiddling on the side, and eventually switched solely to fiddling. I joined a fiddling group, and traveled with them on tour to England in 2014. Since going off to college I've mainly continued to play on my own. I don't teach music theory, I mainly teach by ear, but can provide sheet music. When I was in high school I used to attend a weekly fiddle group and play, and we would teach each other new tunes, which is where I found a passion for teaching!
Curriculum
I personally struggled a lot with reading music. Despite having played in several orchestras throughout grade school and high school, I was always the kid who wrote fingerings above the notes. Then I discovered fiddling and learning by ear which was a much better fit! Given my difficulty with learning music, I am very patient and am willing to work through the same song/part of a song as many times as it takes. I am also happy to send recordings, slowed down and at regular speed for extra practice in between sessions.
