Yan Li

Violinist Yan Li has been playing the violin since she was 5 years old. She has made her orchestral debut with Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Calgary Civic Symphony, Calgary Youth Orchestra, and Lethbridge Symphony. She was a semifinalist in the 2016 Montreal Symphony Manulife Competition, prizewinner of the McGill Chamber Music Competition, 1st prize winner of the Canadian Music Competition, LSO Young Artist Competition, and Calgary Concerto Competition. She has spent her summers at Morningside Music Bridge, NAC Young Artist Program, Meadowmount School of Music, and Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival.

I am super grateful to be able to share my music with others. I have been teaching for 5 years now. I have been a teaching assistant for my previous professor's students who needed extra help.

I am dedicated to helping each student develop an individual voice at their own pace. I want to help him or her produce an organic, resonant sound and build efficient technique. I love to watch my students grow over time and see them communicate through their art.

I teach in the Galamian method of violin playing. I also include music theory and ear training in each lesson since I am a believer in learning by ear. For younger students, I prefer to start with Suzuki, then advance to etudes and eventually graded repertoire.
