Derek Fong

Derek is an award-winning saxophonist and multi-instumentalist, as well as a nationally-performed composer and arranger, with a passion for teaching and sharing his knowledge. He received his Bachelor of Music in Jazz & Improvisational Music from the University of Nevada, Reno and is planning on attending the University of Oregon for graduate school. Derek is well versed in playing and writing jazz, funk, fusion, electronic, and classical music.

Derek tailors his lessons individually to each of his student's needs, abilities, and goals. He has worked with students of all ages and skill levels. The number one goal of his, is to impart the technique, methodology, and mindset required to allow students to grow not just during lessons, but in between as well. He specializes in helping students develop their improvisational voices that is both grounded in musical traditions and forward-thinking.
